I am somewhat a capitalist and I like Cathal, having met him in London in-between this post and his, I found him him holding some kind of energy that needs to be released. His idea is brilliant and needs support which when I get sorted I will consider very seriously. Ideas are great but more important are people to take them from the idea phase, one: The potential of the potential, to phase two: the actualization of the potential, phase three and four are contained in phase one.
They are of course , Three: the potential of the actualization and Four: the actualization of the actualization.
I believe Cathal has 2,3 and 4 in the idea,

I like the practical approach rather than the afademic philosophical one. I beleive that ethical decisions derives a) from our basic humanity and b) particular real situations we get presented with. Most people have a high degree of agreement about dealing with ethical dilemas whatever their background, culture or religion or so I beleive. You are researching all this but it will be hard, honestly…cheers
Good Luck on your grapple with honesty. I think you touched on a big difficulty at the end of your first chapter when you stated ‘I don’t think I do know the Truth’. Is it possible to ‘know’ the truth. As Socrates said towards the end of his life ‘all I know is that I do not know’
Interesting… really interesting… i like the way you think, much more interested in learning all that you find throughout the year. The first chapter is very witty, much too much swearing for me but again you’re just being honest, so thats understandable. The numeric style/layout was off-putting but also very informal which i like, most of all, i enjoyed reading the first chapter. Well done and keep us posted.

I live in Spain too, and I must tell you, Madrid is a complicated place to tell the truth, it always gets me in trouble. They believe “some” truths, are just plain rude.
I like the numbered lists, though when I did them in my writing group I got universally badgered to take ‘em out. Apparently most people don’t like them.
“Two truths I didn’t realise until just now:
1. I’ve always had the sense that my life is moving towards some sort higher truth
2. It’s not going particularly well”
I applaud your effort to live life differently, to find a deeper meaning than chasing after financial security, of which there is never enough.
It seems to me, though, that you have set yourself a rather difficult task. What does it mean to be “honest”? What exactly is a “lie”?
In the end you may find yourself chasing a chimera. Better perhaps to begin the process of being quiet. Watch and listen to yourself. You will find that so long as you have expectations, so long as you cling to ideas and feelings, you will for that long remain unsatisfied, unfulfilled, frustrated. Let go – of everything – and living honestly comes quite naturally. Because you have nothing to gain and nothing to hide, there is no longer any reason to dissemble.
It is really the same thing as trying not to sin, ever. It has generally been proven not to be possible. For this reason Jesus died on the cross.
You are on a search for truth. You may probably find it in the bible (the probably is about you not the bible). But, you can see it more clearly in the true people of God, anyway.
A transcript that I have found online is entitled, “The Dignity and Duties of the Priest”. There is a list of 47 items. Very interesting.
1. Lose all rather than lose God.
4. To die rather than to knowingly commit a sin ..
(A sin is a short-fall, not exactly a lie, but more to the point of what the problem really is).
10. God alone makes man content.
20. To trouble one’s self about faults comitted is not humility, but pride.
Quite an interesting document, with attempts to share /find some truths itself. Contriversial even in most Chiristian circles. Worth looking at.
I love the idea, which I’ve played about with in my head and wanted to see realised in a novel. So to have it in real life is even better! Can the world function if everyone were always honest and how would it be different? I like the honesty in this, there are some big admissions. Worried for family and friends who don’t have a choice. And look forward to reading about benefits of truth as well as problems it causes.
I assume you’re off collecting episodes, where you’ve told the truth and got yerself into a pickle ? In other words – I hope the exercise doesn’t stop at a short prologue.

Swearing – who the fook is offended by swearing ? If you’re going to be honest ( in thought) then the swearing’s going to build up to crecendos, on occassion – let it rip.

To lie means to lie about your feelings ; is to say : I love you when you don’t !

I felt inspired and decided to stop small and big lies for… at least for a day and the day is not even finished…even one day is such an effort. Yes, lies have become so convenient. Please keep us informed about your progress and discoveries on your path to truth.

You can lie to a fanatic because he have lost any reason.
It remains to relativize our interests and our own packaging.

And for the sake of truthfullness….do swear in your book …it does add….it adds you in a truthfull way (phase your going through) …for the sake of your book don´t alter your center self because ´Gordon` might think it is appaling, (and in the process maybe giving your kids the impression it is a ´must to adapt so much in order for others to like it!)…

IS the name of your book purposely contrived as a play on words for cheap publicity? I am appalled.
I’ve recently revised the Prologue and cut out most of the swearing – it didn’t add anything, I think, and needlessly puts some people off.
I’m keeping the title, though. Sorry, Gordon.
